I interviews havde deltagerne besvaret sp\u00f8rgsm\u00e5l om bl.a. typiske mad-og drikkevarer og nu unders\u00f8gte forskerne data vedr\u00f8rende indtagelse af olivenolie og antal kalorier.<\/p>\n<p>I l\u00f8bet af opf\u00f8lgningsperioden fra starten af 1992-93 og slutning i 2006-09 var der 416 d\u00f8dsfald p\u00e5 grund af hjertekarsygdom, 956 d\u00f8dsfald p\u00e5 grund af kr\u00e6ft og 417 d\u00f8dsfald af andre \u00e5rsager. Der var 126 d\u00f8dsfald, hvor \u00e5rsagen ikke var oplyst.<\/p>\n<p>For de deltagere hvis indtag af olivenolie l\u00e5 i den h\u00f8jeste fjerdedel, var der tale om en 26% lavere risiko for at d\u00f8 uanset \u00e5rsag og 44% lavere risiko for at d\u00f8 af hjertekarsygdom sammenlignet med de, der ikke konsumerede olivenolie.<\/p>\n<p>Ser vi p\u00e5 d\u00f8ds\u00e5rsager udover kr\u00e6ft og hjertekarsygdom, var der her en reduceret risiko p\u00e5 38% hos de, der indtog mest olivenolie.<\/p>\n<p>Selvom der i dette studie ikke kunne konstateres nogen sammenh\u00e6ng mellem indtagelsen af olivenolie og risikoen for at d\u00f8 af kr\u00e6ft, pointerer forskerne, at der er evidens for, at olivenolie beskytter mod specifikke kr\u00e6ftformer, is\u00e6r brystkr\u00e6ft.<\/p>\n<p>Olivenolie indeholder enkelt-um\u00e6ttede fedtsyrer, E-vitamin og fenoler, som alle har stor betydning for beskyttelsen mod kroniske sygdomme. Forfatterne g\u00f8r opm\u00e6rksom p\u00e5, at olivenolie i randomiserede, kliniske fors\u00f8g har vist sig at forbedre systemisk inflammation og kontrol med blodsukkeret.
